Subject:French Park Tennis Court / Pickle Ball Court
Commissioners:
Pickle Ball is the fastest growing sport in America increasing approximately a 650% over the past 6
years. Though the total number of players do not match those of tennis nationally, tennis has remained
relatively static in regards to growth and shows a decline amongst it’s core players. SLO dilemma is not
unique. Communities across our nation have been converting tennis courts and basketball courts to
mixed use or single use pickle ball to accommodate the rapid growth in pickle ball. Every community has
its’ own demographic, but as a casual player with a wife and grandson that play as well it is obvious to us
that French Park has a much greater demand for pickle ball than tennis. Life is a series of transitions and
SLO is feeling the effects of pickle ball's growth nationally. Given that we do not have unlimited
resources the logical choice for French Park is to favor the greatest demand, pickle ball. It is also the
most efficient use of an asset . In the same space 16 players (Pb) and 2 to 4 for tennis. Please leave the
pickle ball scheduling as is and plan for the continued growth of pickle ball. Good luck.
Thank you,
Harry, Debbie and Owen Fawcett
