I was so happy when the pickle ball courts were put in at French Park. I started playing once there were dedicated courts - about 3-1/2 months. It is so great to be able to play on a regular basis. This is possible because of the availability of the lower courts on most days. The dedicated courts are always overflowing on pickle ball club days. I am so glad we enjoy the use of 7 courts. Especially since the tennis court rarely has tennis players on it, even on the dedicated tennis days. I used to play tennis but am no longer able after knee replacement surgery. It would be extremely disappointing for me, to have it so full on the dedicated courts because we might not have the use of the tennis courts - that some days I might not be able to even get two games in. I have a hard time understanding why there would be a discussion to possibly dedicate the French Park tennis court for more tennis days when it is rarely used for tennis. Plus, there are many public tennis courts available in San Luis Obispo and not very many pickle ball courts - especially when it is the fastest growing sport in the United States. There are also a lot of families that are starting to play and to reduce the available number of courts, would definitely affect this group. I wish the courts had been there when my children were small as they never really had an interest in tennis but enjoy pickle ball, now as adults. Another reason why I enjoy pickle ball, is that there are always plenty of people to play with and I don't have to prearrange a set group like I used to have to do to play tennis at French Park. I can just go over by myself and know that I will be able to play, even if I wait for a couple of games to get on the court. I cannot attend the meeting on Wednesday or I would come and show support for this fun and social sport. Please consider all of the population in your decision and not just the very small group of people that would be using the French Park court for tennis. Most of my friends who still play tennis use the Sinsheimer courts or the SLO High School courts and have never even played on the French Park court. Thank you for accepting input on this matter as it is important to me since tennis is no longer an option for me. Sincerely, Cynthia Miyahara 1170 Tulip Court San Luis Obispo, CA 1
