HomeMy WebLinkAbout3/4/2020 Item 4, Feye Wilbanks, Megan From:White Wolf < To:Advisory Bodies Subject:PRC Communication City Recreation Department Commissioners, I would like to express my gratitude for being a resident here in SLO. I believe the opportunities for recreation are great! The city has recognized the sport of Pickleball as an amazing opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy! Thankfully, with the efforts of the SLO Pickleball Club- the club members signed in for ? amount of time to show the increasing interest of the sport in SLO. There are many X- Tennis players who have joined the pickleball fun! The nice part of playing PB in SLO is the camaraderie and support to people of all ages. People in the community are meeting outdoors at French Park daily. The beauty of PB vs. Tennis is that one doesn’t need to arrange to get 1-3 others to play at a given time…… Up to 16 people are able to play pickleball at one time (and others socializing and waiting to play pickleball) vs 2-4 players on the tennis court -occupying the same amount of space. I understand that the tennis court at French Park was dedicated in memory of a former tennis player. I believe this person played tennis with many former tennis / now pickleball recruits. I’m sure she would be pleased to see the court being used by many of her former friends and the numerous new comers who reside in this community who enjoy the same space for recreation. In fact, I see many players showing up to socialize with others while they are healing from age related injuries. The numbers have shown that there is a solid interest in PB and that the court times that have been allocated by the city have worked out well. I feel that any change that results in taking away opportunities for pickleball would be a disservice for the majority. Thank you for your time in considering this request. With gratitude, Karla Feye 1
