Dear Board Members,
I am writing this message to support the SLO Pickleball group and the use of French Park lower tennis
courts.
I started playing pickleball over a year ago when I retired full time. I quickly realized what a wonderful
group of people I had come in contact with.
To see so many old and young people playing together, supporting one another, and providing
encouragement to people a bit intimidated by a sport was refreshing. Many people have told me that
pickleball is more than just an activity but also their social outlet and a place where they always feel
welcome and can be involved in a healthy activity. It may be their only community involvement.
Also, this group of folks are great ambassadors for our city. Many visitors to the area come to the
courts to play and are always warmly greeted and welcomed. This usually leads to great conversations
about our area and the visitors leave with a wonderful sense of community in SLO. They surely spread
that image when they go home.
The courts at French Park are always busy during the reserved times and getting busier. The tennis
courts are most often empty during their reserved time - as they were before the upper courts were
built. I hope the Board sees fit to not reduce the pickleball hours at this point. It is an actively growing,
inclusive group providing much more than just a physical activity especially for our older community
members
Thank you,
Terry Jacobson
