Subject:A tardy request/comment regarding 487 Leff St. (HASLO HQ)
Hello-
My name is Andrew Kean and I am sorry for this tardy request/comment regarding the proposed HASLO Headquarters
at 487 Leff St.. I just realized this morning that the ARC hearing was last Monday, and not today. If there is no
mechanism to integrate my suggestion due to my poor timing, I totally understand.
I live at 377 High St., which is very close to the building site. I wanted to first commend the proposal to make the one
block of Leff St. into a one-way street with traffic flowing away from High St. It is a step in the right directly to making
High St. a safer road to live on.
My one addition request would be to consider sidewalk bump-outs (aka curb extensions) into High St. at both ends of
their block to make walking across High St. easier. I frequently watch children from the HASLO apartments (and
surrounding neighborhood) near their HQ struggle to cross High on their way to school each morning. The crosswalk
signs at Hutton have helped, but many kids still choose to cross High St. at Beach/King or Leff/Harris. If there is anyway
to make those crossings safer and to possibly slow cars along High St., we would definitely appreciate it. And I feel that
sidewalk bump outs would achieve both of those goals. I know that parking is a big concern at this site, but it is worth
possibly losing a street parking space or two to improve the safety of pedestrians.
Thanks for your consideration and sorry again about my timing.
Andrew Kean
