Dear Council Members :
Just about a year ago I was one of many who contacted you by mail, email, telephone ,
or in person to urge you not to increase, by about twenty five percent, the green fees at
Laguna Lake Golf Course . However, four of you voted for the increase because th e
revenue was needed . Now, a year later, you want to again raise green fees . Did th e
raise increase the revenues? No, green fee revenues were decreased because th e
raise resulted in considerably less play . Another raise will cause further decreases i n
play.
Not only has the economy decreased play, but all the 18 hole golf courses in the are a
have held the line on green fees and offer great specials making it cheaper to play a
regulation golf course than to play Laguna's executive course . It only stands to reaso n
that when you can get twice as much golf for less money, many golfers are patronizing
the 18 hole courses .
I am a golfer and have worked part time at the golf course for almost twenty years .
During that time, play at the course has dwindled each time you raise green fees - a n
annual occurrence . I find it difficult to understand why the golf course is expected to b e
self supporting yet my tax dollars go to maintain such places as city parks, bike trails ,
youth sports fields, tennis courts, swimming pool, and even the PAC .
San Luis Obispo is a tourist town and many tourists are golfers . Laguna Lake Golf
Course is a real jewel —beautifully maintained by three dedicated city employees . I believeeverything should be done to attract tourists to this course, not price us out of the market an dsend tourists to the other courses in the count y
In closing I urge you to NOT raise green fees again .
