Re : Support South Street Apartments
Dear Mayor Romero and Members of the Council :
The Workforce Housing Coalition was formed to encourage the creation an dpreservation of more housing in San Luis Obispo County that members of ou r
local workforce can afford to buy or rent . We support residential project s
that will both enhance our community and use land and other resource seffectively.
The Coalition has reviewed the plans for the proposed South Stree t
Apartments and we wholeheartedly support the project as currentl yproposed. The project will provide sorely needed affordable rental housin gfor 68 families who live and work in our community . These units will b e
affordable for at least 55 years .
We believe that the project exemplifies smart growth and will be an asset t o
our community . The project is located on a bus route and is convenient t o
employment, services and shopping .It is also close to schools an d
recreational facilities . The project has a compact design that will use lan d
very efficiently . As planned, it will also be one of the greenest and mos t
energy efficient residential developments in the city .
We encourage you to direct your staff to work with the developer to proces sand approve the project as quickly as possible . Staff should work to
minimize any negative impacts that the project may have but should try no t
to reduce the number of units in the project or their level of affordability .
Your clear support and direction for the project would be greatly appreciate d
at this time .
