HomeMy WebLinkAboutREDjusticeph3To : Honorable Mayor and City Council Member s From : Louise Justice 3000 Augusta #218 - Judson Terrace Home s San Luis Obispo, CA 9340 1 Date : August 19, 201 0 Re : Transit Fare Increase s I'm representing myself as a private citizen and a senior resident of San Luis Obispo, not being i n agreement with the proposed transit fare increases . I'm requesting that the Council consider th e following recommendations in lieu of what has been proposed . Adult Cash Fare - to be increased from $1 .25 to $1 .50 for immediate cash influx into Transi t coffers to insure sufficient revenues since Federal and State monies are unknown and uncertain . Transfer Fee - instead of the 75 cents proposed, lowering it to 50 cents in consideration of th e increase in the Adult Cash Fare of $1 .50 . Senior/Disabled 31 day Pass - the proposed increase of $2 .50 for a total of $15 for this pass i s unacceptable . People who are on SSI are granted monies up to $840/Month - this is a combine d amount from SSI funds and Social Security . Seniors were not given a cost-of-living increase thi s year nor will they receive one next year . I quote in part from an article in The Tribune of Augus t 6, 2010 : "Because inflation remains low, the report said, Social Security beneficiaries wil l probably not receive a cost-of-living adjustment in 2011, just as they did not receive one thi s year ." Consider leaving the pass fee at $12 .50 - or, if you feel an increase is needed in this area, pleas e consider raising the fee by 25 cents only to $12 .75 (which is the same quarter increase for th e Adult Cash Fare). It is much easier for "elder" fingers to handle quarters than dimes so an increase of 15 cents mad e to the S/D Cash Fare from 60 cents to 75 cents would be preferable . Perhaps this woul d encourage more people to purchase a pass . I'm in agreement with the proposed Trolley Fares - i .e . Adult Cash of 50 cents and S/D Cash o f 25 cents . I don 't want to see a reduction in service because of insufficient funding . The bus scheduling is already at a low for residents of the City (no evening service from mid-June to the first week o f September yearly). Insofar as Cal Poly and Cuesta students, faculty and staff seem to be the mai n focus and priority for SLO's Transit system, I feel it's about time the permanent residents of th e City be considered on an equal basis . Thank you for your consideration and understanding . /M72-6£ L COUNCI L L RED FILE 0-A --MEETING AGENDA C3-t LFRK ORI G G DEPT HEAD S DAT~~~C;1Q ITEM #.PH 3 A6 Ctry,- L>rl/L_ CDD D R0-FIN DI R Q'FIRE CHIE FDPW DI R 2-POLICE CH FC.3'REC DIR L JTIL DI R r/-IR DIR
