Letter to the Editor December 2, 2010 SLO CITY CLER K
Regarding the article titled, "It's Time to Stand Behind Jan Marx" (December 1):
We couldn't agree more . Had Ms . Marx given up her council seat and not been electe d
mayor, the city would have lost a smart, capable, dedicated public servant .
Her replacement is equally critical to the composition of the council and the future of
San Luis Obispo . We trust that the council will use their independent judgment to mak e
the best choice for our fair city but we believe the community is best served b y
appointing attorney Patty Andreen . Andreen has both knowledge of the law an d
familiarity with the budget process . During her tenure as a SLCUSD trustee, sh e
sought solutions that were grounded in sound fiscal sense as the board deftly navigate d
$10 million budget cuts . She is no stranger to voters either having been elected to th e
school board to represent SLO as well as garnering 49 .03% of the vote when she ra n
for 3rd district supervisor . Andreen is a coalition builder and a constructive force wh o
consistently displays grace and wit under pressure -- rare and precious commodities .
