Subject:Item 6 - Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon - Broad Street at Woodbridge
Dear Mayor Harmon & City Council,
I enthusiastically urge council to follow staff recommendation to approve plans and specification for the Broad
Street/Woodbridge Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon. This will be a huge asset to the surrounding neighborhood in providing
safe, low stress infrastructure to cross Broad Street which is very intimidating with its high-traffic.
My family lives near the recently installed Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon at Foothill/Ferinni and we absolutely love it! We use
it at least once a week currently to access the playgrounds at Pacheco & Throop Park. Next year when my daughter
starts kindergarten we'll be using it 5+ days a week. It makes getting across Foothill Blvd by foot or by bike much less
stressful. Not having to worry about drivers making right or left hand turns (as happens at the Foothill/Broad crossing)
while we’re in the crosswalk feels way more safe. This is a game changer for getting more people to bike and walk. The
neighborhoods on Broad will be very happy with it.
I've attached some photos of my family using the existing Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon.
Thank you for improving the biking & walking infrastructure in SLO!
Best Regards,
