Subject:The importance of bicycle infrastructure in SLO
Dear council,
In light of the current virus situation, I have decided to write in rather than attend tomorrow's meeting to speak my
thoughts on allocating funding. Please see below for more.
Living in San Luis Obispo allows us such a unique opportunity to live in ways that make us more connected as a
community: easy access to open space, consistently friendly weather, and a relatively small, highly concerned, educated
population. As we face the global problems of climate change and human health, I feel strongly that we ought to capitalize
on our unique situation by focusing our efforts on progressive ways of living. We have a leg up here, and we can be
leaders for other cities around the world in working towards infrastructure that creates a healthier, happier population.
I am writing to ask that you please allocate funding for quick build projects. Specifically, I would like to see the city
 add protected bike lanes
to create separated and protected places for people biking, walking, and taking transit
implement measures to slow vehicle traffic to safer speeds and focus on pedestrian safety
o I am particularly concerned about one specific area in town that has not yet been addressed
and DESPERATELY needs addressing. This is the intersection of Santa Barbara Ave. and
Osos St., a VERY often-crossed portion of roadway in the railroad district where cars
repeatedly speed around the semi-blind turn and risk injury or death of the many many
pedestrians that use this thoroughfare as a way to access businesses and residences in the
area.
pursue a very aggressive timeline to build out a core bicycle network
Thanks for everything you do!
