Subject:Public Comment for SLO City Council Meeting (March 17)
\[ Name need not be mentioned \].
As a member of Democratic Socialists of America-SLO, as well as the child of a single-mother renter household, these
questions are instrumental in relation to the current pandemic:
1) Given the mass work stoppages, what is being done right now by local authorities to provide a county-wide rent and
mortgage moratorium / freeze on all evictions?
2) Given the suspension of incomes for many workers, what is being done right now by local authorities to guarantee
the access of utilities (power, gas, water, etc.), regardless of non-payment?
3) Given the health-care regime within the country, what is being done right now by local authorities to provide free
testing and treatment to all who ask for it locally?
4) Given that the virus will sharply affect the most marginal of us, what is being done right now by local authorities to
permanently halt the sweeping of houseless camps, temporarily suspend parking enforcement, permanently halt the
prohibition of overnight camping in occupied vehicles "during the hours of ten p.m. to six a.m." (municipal code
10.34.020), and in providing shelter to the houseless so these peoples may properly self-quarantine if need be?
5) Is the council aware that any failure to meet the above demands will vastly increase the threat of the virus not only
within San Luis Obispo but also the entirety of both SLO & North Counties?
