Subject:Support - 5/22 Agenda, Item 1, OPEN SLO – TEMPORARY USE OF CITY RIGHT-OF-
WAY TO FACILITATE SOCIAL DISTANCING AND SUPPORT COVID-19 ECONOMIC
RECOVERY
Honorable Mayor, Council members:
We support the use of the public right of way for retail activities of varying natures.
This crisis has presented an opportunity to think boldly, to make changes, to capitalize on opportunities.
We have heard much about a ‘return to normal’. Item 1 on this coming agenda shows that perhaps ‘normal’ is not the
place to which we want, or need, to return.
Our City took bold action and was the first in the nation to ban smoking. I support taking bold action again, and realizing
the possibilities for an enriched city life as suggested in the staff report.
We would also suggest being careful with any promises of when said improvements will be removed; we may well find
that they work and should stay.
