My friend, John Thomas, shared the plan for reopening Downtown SLO via street closures, allowing for more pedestrian
traffic and dining, all while observing social distancing guidelines. I have read it fairly carefully this morning, and I am
delighted by your thoughtfulness and willingness to embrace change. We fully endorse this plan, and are hopeful it can
be implemented quickly to allow for our summer enjoyment. SLO has a unique opportunity to create a more “Euro” and
welcoming atmosphere - a likely boost for tourism that may benefit us not just now but in the future, even after the
pandemic threat has expired.
We do note that bicycle paths are mentioned and it is always important to acknowledge their role in our community.
How about parking for bicycles, and bicycle valets, as with Concerts in the Plaza? We didn’t see a place for utilization of
the trolley. Can that work as a remote parking shuttle? The upper Monterey Street businesses would be supported by
that. Last: it seems OpenSLO is slated to be in place Friday afternoon through Sunday. Perhaps it can begin as early as
Thursday, when Higuera usually shuts down for Farmer’s Market anyway.
Thank you for the time and effort that have been expended on our behalf. We’re grateful.
