Subject:Open SLO
COVID-19 has been stressful and difficult but it also present a time for us to rethink so many things and come out the
better for it.
I’ve long been a fan of putting pedestrians and bikes first, especially in a place like SLO where the weather is so lovely. I
love our local restaurant scene, our Thursday night farmers market, and our vibrant downtown. But I’ve never been a
fan of the cars. The noise, the pollution, the disruption, the disregard for pedestrians.
I can’t go back to supporting our restaurants by eating inside as I have to think about my loved ones who are vulnerable.
But if I have the option to eat outside then I will be there.
The pandemic is not gone, another one will happen. Let’s be thoughtful and be prepared. Let’s also consider how much
better this will be for everyone. Close down Higuera, close down broad (in the downtown core), make these pedestrian
only with expanded cafe seating. Oakland is closing down 84 miles of city streets, NYC is closing down 100 miles - SLO
needs to follow their lead.
Thank you
Laura Maxwell
