Dear Council Members,
The CDC recommends we wear masks in public places to reduce Covid infection. Likewise Dr. Fauci.
And Dr. Birx. And Harvard med. Plus just about every credible authority, even the White House, though
not it’s resident prince.
On Friday afternoon of Memorial weekend I twice drove through downtown. I saw lots of pedestrians. I
saw no masks. I saw no social distancing. At traffic signals unmasked strangers bunched up awaiting the
signal’s change.
This is infection trouble brewing. Big trouble. Especially now that the council’s promoting dense downtown
activity like you established at your recent “health emergency” meeting.
There’s a simple thing you, the council, can do to help protect public health: mandate the use of
masks in public places. Being deniers on the wrong side of this health science is analogous to being a
denier of climate science. Your vote against mandating masks is inconsistent with current science and
epidemiology regarding COVID-19 (and hiding behind a county bureaucrat’s skirt doesn’t change the
science and epidemiology). I think you’re better than that.
YOU, and only you, can protect us this significant way. Pismo cares.
Please take action. You need to adopt a mask mandate. ASAP
Richard Schmidt
