HomeMy WebLinkAbout6/2/2020 Item Public Comment, MorrowDisappointingly I am out of the country at this time of national unrest. My heart is with all the protesters across this USA standing up against police violence on people of color and especially black Americans. I HOPE THERE IS MORE THAN WHAT THE VIDEOS ONLINE SHOW THIS MORNING. What I saw from the SLO police this morning on video was disgusting. I never thought I would see that in my community. It reminded me of what I saw live on CNN last night where the police, at our terrible president's direction, fired on peaceful protests solely so he could have a photo op with a bible. How can we fire on unarmed and, from what I can see in the videos, largely peaceful protests? Whatever the "undisclosed public threat" was needs to become disclosed very quickly. Yes they are blocking the street. There are ways around this traffic and SLO is largely empty with the college out for COVID. I thought we lived in a different community than this. I never thought this would happen where I live. I expect the city council to review this incident and release a statement. This is another strike against the police chief. Just a few hours before this, the police kneeled with the protesters in a show of solidarity. Was this just an act and a photo op?
