HomeMy WebLinkAbout6/2/2020 Item Public Comment, JanielMayor Harmon and City Council Members, I want to thank all of you for your service to our community. I am a 32 year old white woman, I live in downtown San Luis Obispo. I have walked with the Women's March and have participated in numerous other demonstrations in our downtown public space. I proudly walked last night, after work, with peaceful protestors, RACE Matters SLO, and Cal Poly Black Student Union. I was scared for my life as I participated in a peaceful protest, which I never thought could happen in San Luis Obispo. From the outset, the police has a K-9 police dog at the line. I lived around the corner from the Grover Beach house where David Fear was killed in 2016. Lethal force should have not been at the protest last night. I watched the tear gas being prepared at 7pm, when we were simply trying to march down Santa Rosa. I was terrified for my life. But I realize I am a white woman, and I cannot even begin to imagine living daily with that fear. Please help pur community grow and develop and move forward. Thank you for your time, Valerie J.
