HomeMy WebLinkAbout6/16/2020 Item 11, Kensinger From:Timothy R Kensinger < To:E-mail Council Website; Johnson, Derek Subject:I do not want new buildings to be all electric by city mandate, but from free choice!! I do not support the Clean Energy Choice Program for New Buildings and strongly encourage you to vote no and to not put this program into place. Electric ranges are terrible to cook at home with, for those who can’t afford to eat out, and heating a home with an electric furnace is extremely expensive, roughly twice the cost as natural gas. Most people cook meals and heat their homes at night, when solar panels aren’t generating much electricity. Does MBCP have enough wind energy at night to supply that clean power, or will natural gas plants be used to supply that power? It’s cheap and simple for people to convert to electric appliances, if they so choose, but converting to natural gas after initial construction is nearly unfeasible due to the cost of running buried natural gas lines under existing construction. Until you each have fully electric homes, you are asking a heavy lift from others that you will not take up yourselves. You can pretend this is a ‘choice’, but you know that it’s not for those who can afford it least. Your goal appears noble, but the devil is in the details. The working poor and middle class of this city deserves a ‘no’ vote. Thank You, A resident of SLO City 1
