Mayor and City Council Members,
I worked in the Criminal Justice System for thirty years and over twenty of those years as a Parole Agent. While working as a Parole
Agent we intervased with all of the local police departments on the central coast as well as the SLSO and the SBSO. We additionally
worked with all of the jails, probation, immigration and federal agents. Most of the time people worked colaboratavely and were
a positive team of people to work with. I was upset by the article that Major Harmon posted in the Telegram Tribune with all of the
questions for the local police. I found most of the questions insulting to our Police Chief about her department and her staff. Most
of the questions were something that is clearly what is done every day. My fear is that by those questions being asked out of context
and before the Police had the chance to make or write a presentation many of the public would think they were not current
policies. Most of what we do in Public Service is try to understand, teach and provide opportunities to those we serve. Police Officers
do this every day when people are not at their best. Please listen before you react to our local law enforcement and know we are very
fortunate to live where we do and have the well trained Peace Officers that serve us. Additionally please encourage the population
you are serving to vote, volunteer and get involved. When we volunteer we learn more about the real work that needs to be done,
meet new people and hear new voices. Thank you for your service and time.
