I have heard you passionately speak about representing all SLO residents and how equality and acceptance of diversity are now priorities of this community. As leaders and representatives of this community it is your job to make decisions for the diverse population you represent. This means you have the tough job of taking into consideration each person as an individual, and trying to steer this community in the right direction based on their needs and concerns. I think it is unfortunate you have decided to make a huge decision during a time when individuals can not show up and voice those needs. I don’t think this email will help you pause and try to consider me and how this affects my life, but I’m sending it anyways. I am just one person that lives and works in this community so I know I may not pull too much weight here, but I oppose this decision. The thing that most concerns me is making this decision based on what a small majority thinks is right, is taking away my choice in the matter. Using politics to take away people’s choices is greatly concerning to me even when you think it is for the greater good. The fact that you can’t offer incentives and leave the choice up to people tells me there is a valid reason people don’t want it, and it’s not because they don’t care about the environment. There are many factors and obstacles that keep people from going all electric and a lot of it is financial. It’s easy to look at the matter and tell people to give up a little to spend the extra money to help in the long run, but that’s looking at the puzzle as a whole. We can’t forget to look at every individual piece and realize every piece is important. I know you say the cost will be lowered with new technology and in the long run, but my every day life, that I have to make work, does not support the changes you are going to require. The second point I would like to make is the details of all these solar changes and installments. I had a few different solar companies come give me bids and all of them said if I wanted solar I would have to cut down 3 of my beloved oak trees. When it comes down to it I one, can’t afford to get these trees cut down, but most importantly don’t want to. Now I know you don’t care about my oak trees but the point I’m trying to make here is that putting up all these renewable energy plants and solar panels may be adding one environmental benefit at the cost of another. You leaders have such an important job. You are the stones that start the ripples in the middle of the ocean that eventually reach the shore, I would ask that you really think about every single ripple before you make these huge important decisions. I would like to challenge you to try to see others point of view on the matter, even when they disagree with you. Please consider where the opposing people are coming from as you take on the role of progress and change. I appreciate you working towards a better future, and always striving to progress this community in the right direction, please make sure we can all realistically participate. Thank You, 1 Marci Hardeman Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone 2
