While difficult, all of them require your strength and wisdom. I encourage you to move forward on adoption of the amendments to the building code requiring higher energy performance. Climate change has created weather extremes that we are continuously experiencing here in California, including damaging wildfires, flooding, debris flows and drought. We must respond to this threat in three ways: 1. We must do all we can to reverse climate change – you are taking a small step in that direction today. 2. We must prepare for the impacts of climate change by preparing for weather extremes. This will require that we build resiliency into our critical infrastructure, including: electricity, internet, cellular, water, sanitation and bridges. 3. We must prepare our City staff and communities members for disasters, they will occur. Tonight is an important step, I encourage you to continue to move forward and unanimously vote yes on this agenda item and then identify what else can we do. Most sincerely, Robert Lewin 1336 Pismo Street San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 (805) 801-3569 1
