Since my mic didn’t seem to work… here is my message. Thanks for reading it.
I’m speaking on behalf of San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace. It is a local organization working for peace, social
justice, and a clean, nuclear-free, carbon-free environment.
We encourage the Council to adopt this resolution titled “Clean Energy Choice Policy for New Buildings.” It will
pave the way for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the use of fossil fuels for buildings and
transportation.
We appreciate that:
The proposed building code amendments are cost effective and are more stringent than the statewide
standards.
There is a four-part incentive program to assist with the transition to designing and building all-electric new
buildings.
There is flexibility in this resolution in that it is not banning natural gas; it allows the choice to install natural
gas in exchange for energy efficiency.
Mothers for Peace urges the Council to move forward with this program.
