HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-04-2020 HRC MinutesMinutes Human Relations Commission Wednesday, March 4, 2020 Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission CALL TO ORDER A Regular Meeting of the San Luis Obispo Human Relations Commission was called to order on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room, located at 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, California, by Chair Welts. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners, Bill Crewe, Abe Lincoln (arrived at 5:18pm), Jeannette Richardson, Emily Rosten, Vice Chair Michael Hopkins, and Chair Nancy Welts Absent: Commissioners Renoda Campbell Staff: Cara Vereschagin, Housing Coordinator; Michael Codron, Community Development Director PUBLIC COMMENT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA None --End of Public Comment-- APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1.Consideration of Minutes of the Regular Human Relations Commission Meeting of December 4, 2019 and February 5, 2020. ACTION: MOTION BY VICE CHAIR HOPKINS, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER ROSTEN, 5-0-2 to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission of December 4, 2019 and February 5, 2020. PRESENTATIONS 2.SLO Forward Presentation Community Development Director, Michael Codron, gave a presentation on SLO Forward, collected feedback, and responded to questions from the HRC. City of San Luis Obispo, Title, Subti tle Minutes Human Relations Commission Meeting of 3/4/2020 Page 2 BUSINESS ITEMS 3.Assign Subcommittee to Review 2020-21 Grants-in-Aid Applications Housing Coordinator Vereschagin led a brief discussion regarding the development of a subcommittee to review the 2020-21 Grants-in-Aid Applications. Commissioners Richardson, Crewe, and Lincoln volunteered to be part on the subcommittee. 4.Review of 2019-20 Grants-in-Aid Mid-Year Reports and Liaison Progress Reports The Commission discussed the mid-year reports per their liaison assignments and briefly reported out on key accomplishments their assigned organizations have made using the GIA funding thus far in the grant cycle. STAFF & COMMISSION COMMUNICATIONS 5.Staff Updates & Agenda Forecast Housing Coordinator Vereschagin announced that HRC’s Funding Recommendations for the 2021-22 Community Development Block Grant program were approved by the City Council on March 3, 2020. She also reminded the Commission about the Advisory Body Recognition Event on April 17th. Lastly, she discussed the Agenda Forecast for the upcoming meetings. 6.Commissioner Updates Commissioner Crewe shared a warming story about how the organization Veterans Help ing Veterans helped a community member at risk of becoming homeless. Commissioner Lincoln announced that he joined the board of directors at Hospice SLO County, and began working with an organization called Nature Core. Vice Chair Hopkins announced that he was resigning from the HRC to serve on the City’s Planning Commission, and thanked the members for all their work serving the community. Chair Welts announced that she attended the most recent PACT meeting where she discussed the Diversity and Inclusion Allocation dollars. ADJOURNMENT Chair Welts adjourned the meeting at 6:24 p.m. The next Regular meeting of the Human Relations Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 5:00 p.m., in the Council Hearing Room, 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, California APPROVED BY THE HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION: 05/06/2020
