Subject:James Papp
Honorable Mayor and Council Members.
So you think that James Papp stifles input?
I have been at city council meetings where Councilman Gomez has told members of the public that he did not have to
listen to them because they did not vote for him, where Council member Christianson told members of the public that she
did not want to hear from any more members of the public who agreed with previous speakers, and where the Mayor was
very snippy with dissenting opinion and clearly let it be known that she did not want to hear from members of the public
who disagreed with her.
Your removal of James Papp tonight would be the height of hypocrisy!
And on the question of the role of the city staff in development: I have been attending meetings of the various city advisory
bodies for 4 decades. Time and time again, the city staff falls over backwards to accommodate developers, while at the
same time abusing city residents who have come forward with very reasonable proposals for remodeling projects.
I have to wonder how bad a developer's project has to be before someone says no. No one on the staff or council
member Christianson seems able to say no to anything, and they insult the public in the process.
James Papp is amazingly well informed, educated, and will stand up for what he believes to be right.
The developers, staff, and some of you are clearly not willing to hear this kind of dissent. What then are advisory
committees for?
And who is actually running this city?
At times it can seem that it is the staff and the developers.
Removing James Papp from the Cultural Heritage Committee could lead to an interesting local election season.
Nothing like a little controversy to bring out the voters!
