If a tree is diseased or dangerous, there is justification to remove it. However, a mature healthy tree provides carbon sequestering that far exceeds that of any small replacement tree. It will take many years for any new trees planted to reach the benefit these trees provide toward the climate change battle. It doesn't appear that removing these trees is necessary for the project to be built, so I'm curious why this is even being proposed. Over the past several years, I've watched many healthy trees being removed for the sake of housing and development, even though there is plenty of room for the development. It appears developers just want a cleared plot, which is easiest to build on, without regard for the benefit of the existing mature trees. While housing is needed, it shouldn't come at the expense of our city's urban forest which is one of its most desirable and beneficial features. Therefore, if you approve any trees to be removed, please only allow the unhealthy or dangerous trees to be cut down. Thank you....Carolyn Smith SLO City Resident 1
