Planning Commission,
I am writing to all of you today as a long-term City of San Luis Obispo resident because I have serious concerns about the
continuing and constant building here in our beautiful City.
Once again a developer is trying to build and it appears to me the City of SLO is not doing their due diligence in
mitigating all the problems that will arise from this development of Froom Ranch. Two recent developments come to
mind:
Rigetti Development off of Tank Farm road and the other housing being built on Orcutt Road. We were told that we
residents would have a hiking trail. That has not occurred. Also, when this developer built the “round about” which
supposedly helps with traffic, they took 6 to 9 months at least and caused huge traffic back ups every day! Where was
the City then? Why did they allow this to happen? There are so many cars now on Tank Farm and Orcutt Roads. Where
were the traffic mitigation plans for those developments?
Avila Ranch Development off Buckley Road. Another huge development and my understanding is the “Buckley Road
nd
Extension” isn’t even being required of the Developer until the 2 phase is built out?! The area by Los Osos Valley Road
and South Higuera is completely impacted by traffic NOW!
Froom Ranch is going to make getting around the City of SLO even worse. The complicated Froom Ranch EIR seemed to
me that the plan is for YET AGAIN a future road, PRADO ROAD OVERPASS, to mitigate the traffic problems.
Is it not time to FIRST have these roads built and THEN allow development?
And may I add that the City Council’s solutions of bike riding and public transportation is not going to mitigate these
problems.
I respectfully ask that you on the Planning Commission be realistic and stop approving projects UNTIL the new roads are
completed.
THANKS,
Jacqueline Whitesides
