Subject:August 18th Council Meeting Agenda Item 15 Climate Action Plan
I salute the efforts of the council and staff in developing a comprehensive and aggressive Climate Action Plan
and urge adoption of the plan.
I encourage the city’s representatives on the MBCP governing and advisory bodies to advocate for and insist
on local energy development and behind the meter solutions to avoid reliance on grid tied utility scale
renewable energy.
Local renewable energy and behind the meter solutions provide many benefits to the local economy that is
absent from grid tied projects:
Boost to the local businesses and the economy
local jobs,
resiliency,
reduced dependence on the grid,
reducing or eliminating the cost of upgrading the local distribution system due to increased
electrification
Lower cost to consumers
Opportunities to provide equity in energy solutions for economically disadvantaged customers.
It is important for MBCP to consider the value of local solutions when evaluating new projects. MBCP will not
do so unless the governing bodies require it.
Thank you for considering these comments as the CAP is implemented
