HomeMy WebLinkAbout8/18/2020 Item 16, Walsh From:Nancy Walsh < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:1144 Chorro street project This is regarding the building proposed to go in at 1144 Chorro Street. I am a long-time resident of San Luis Obispo, and I am against this project. The proposal is to build a 75’ mixed use building in the heart of our “charming” city. We do not need or want this development- we already have our share of large buildings and hotels that loom over what were once quaint streets with small local businesses. We do not need any more. I find it hard to believe that a multi-billion dollar company from Georgia has any concern about keeping our community quaint and authentic. This deal smacks of developers coming to our town to make money, with scant regard for what they destroy, or what they leave behind. I am continually surprised by the building projects that have been approved by the city council, and frankly it’s embarrassing. Aren’t you supposed to have our community’s best interest at heart? We have 2 big hotels and sprawl that is reminiscent of Anywhere, USA. This is another project that promises to add “affordable” units, while openly targeting upper 20% incomes. It pretends to provide adequate parking, while scheming loopholes that make it ok to have only 7 parking spaces. There are so many parts of this proposal that I can not address here, so I will stay with my focus. We don’t need another high-rise anything in downtown SLO that would block light, and increase both automobile and pedestrian traffic. Right now, we are in the middle of an historic pandemic. Why not put time, energy, and money into addressing this HUGE problem that is impacting every part of our city? Building monstrosities where no one will be working, walking or dining doesn’t seem smart now- that is for certain. This is not the time or place for billion dollar developers in San Luis Obispo!! Please do the right thing and reject this proposal. Thank you, Nancy Walsh Sent from my iPhone 1
