Subject:Support for 1144 Chorro Street
Hello Council Members,
I am writing in support of the project as proposed by Copeland Properties at 1144 Chorro Street. The proposed location
is the perfect example of a property primed for this type of infill development. It will utilize existing resources and
therefore be much less of a strain on the communities infrastructure. The site has sat dormant for many, many years
and been a bit of a blight on the retail element of downtown core. Also, there are no adjacent single family residential
homes that would suffer from having a project of this height as a neighbor.
Architecturally, the set backs at the upper levels that the architect has incorporated into the design will make that
corner feel much more appealing than a flat, vertical six story surface. This will make a pleasant experience for sidewalk
pedestrians.
Additionally, this project will provide a nice diversity to our housing inventory. As a business owner in the community
this is of great importance to me and my organization. In order to attract and retain employees, different types of
housing options within San Luis Obispo need to be available. Currently, many of my employees commute into San Luis
Obispo from North and South County, adding to the traffic and air quality issues.
I strongly support this project and urge the council to do so as well.
