Subject:2020-8-20 ATC - Agenda Item 2
Dear ATC members,
After reading through the ATP Implementation draft I am overall very happy with it. Great job to the
committee members and staff!
My main recommendation to change the timeline for the following two items from 2035 to 2030:
Complete the highest-priority (Tier 1) bicycle and pedestrian projects recommended in this Plan by 2035.
The City shall secure and earmark sufficient funds to implement Tier 1 projects by 2035 as called for in this
Plan’s Objectives.
I believe it is absolutely necessary for the Tier 1 projects to be completed by 2030 in order to meet and be in alignment
with the following goals also mentioned in the ATP Implementation draft:
Eliminate transportation related fatalities and severe injuries for both bicyclists and pedestrians by 2030.
Consistent with the City’s Climate Action Plan, achieve the General Plan mode share target of 50% city wide trips
by single occupant motor vehicles by 2030
Let's be aggressive with this ask to City Council to secure funding to do the full build out of Tier 1 projects.
I would also like to see a requirement for staff to provide a yearly report that shows what percentage of transportation
funds is being used for the various mode share categories. Such a report would be easily digestible for the public to
verify that 20% of transportation funds are being spent on bicycle projects.
Thank you for your consideration and all that you do.
