Thank you. Please accept this email to the Tree committee Members and place into the record of communications to the
Tree Committee Members.
I am disappointed that the City has chosen to take no action to mitigate the loss of this tree. Mr. Combs, in his
presentation to the Committee, seems to be making the case that prior plantings are acceptable as mitigation, and in
lieu of fines. He states that this sends a message to future individuals. The only message that this sends is that if you
don't like a permit denial, plant a few trees and remove the tree anyway and the City will consider the loss mitigated.
Meaningful mitigation would have been a fine, planting of a large specimen in the backyard, or planting other trees
throughout the neighborhood in an attempt to restore some of the lost canopy. This tree was 100 feet tall and over 36
inches in diameter. This lack of action by staff and the Committee clearly demonstrates that even the most egregious
and repetitive examples of ignoring the MC will be tolerated.

Good Morning Jon,
An update on 150 Chorro was listed on the August 10, 2020 Special Tree Committee Agenda. Mr. Combs
provided an update to the Committee and no further action was taken. If you would like to review what was
discussed, I have linked the video recording of the meeting (you can skip forward to the 1:25:37 mark for this
item).
Have a great day,

Subject: Re: Tree Committee minutes and agenda
The agenda for the August 25,2020 meeting does not include a discussion of 150 Chorro Street (black walnut removal),
which was supposed to be addressed at the last (cancelled) meeting.
In the April 27, 2020 meeting, Chair Loosley requested a report from staff at the next meeting so that the Committee
could recommend mitigation or fine. The followup has not yet occurred. This item should be agendized at the first
available opportunity so that the Committee can provide comment on mitigations (if any) staff has negotiated with the
owner.
thank you,

Thank you. I would still like my communication email recorded under non agenda items for this meeting. Regarding
the minutes, the meeting minutes should reflect that there was an action taken by the Committee (to agendize this
issue). I understand that my comments at the meeting are not transcribed intot he record.
thank you,

Mr. Hanlon,
Yes your email was received and forwarded to Ron Combs (cc’d on this email,)
the staff liaison for the Tree Committee. He would be the one who would add
the item to an agenda. We do don’t put public comment in the minutes just the
name of the person who spoke. The audio/video is available online.
Thank you,
Teresa Purrington
City Clerk

At the April 27, 2020 meeting, I made public comment requesting that
the mitigation of the removal of the walnut tree at 150 Chorro be
agendized for the 5/20/2020 meeting. I believe a motion was passed
accordingly. The meeting minutes do not reflect this action, and the
item is not on the agenda. The posted link to the audio record of the
meeting is not functioning
( http://opengov.slocity.org/weblink/1,1/fol/61087/Row1.aspx).

I am again requesting this item be agendized per my comments and
letter to Committee dated April 27, 2020. The minutes should be
amended to reflect the action.
Thank you,
Jon Hanlon
