Purpose, Outcomes
Task Force Purpose
Aid in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in San Luis Obispo by engaging with
community leaders and in collaboration with each other. The Diversity, Equity and
Inclusion Task Force (DEI-TF) will focus in on the needs of SLO’s most marginalized
communities and provide critical expertise for determining target areas and priorities that
the City should and could begin to address and improve, in partnership or otherwise
support through funding.
Task Force Outcomes
Award NOFA / Grant Funds, Recommendations to the Human Relations Commission,
Recommendations to the City
1. Review and selection of grantees for the $120,000 allotted by the City.
o Including review of NOFA prior to release.
2. DEI-TF will identify greatest needs that the City would be able to address, and
recommendations on best ways to lesson those gaps. This will be facilitated by:
o Participation in community listening sessions in an effort to contextualize
the diverse experiences and needs within San Luis Obispo. (These listening
sessions are not meant to be a comprehensive rep resentation of all the
equity gaps/community needs in San Luis Obispo.)
o Utilization of each Member’s personal and professional experience, and
community networks.
3. Members will collectively and collaboratively develop recommendations for a
potential DE&I Major City Goal and for enhancing the Human Relations
Commission.
Things to Keep in Mind
• Each of you were selected intentionally and your expertise and experiences are
incredibly valued.
• The Task Force is not intended to address all equity gaps in San Luis Obi spo.
There is room and a need for everyone and every organization to do their part.
• The work of the Task Force is only a part of what must be a long -term effort to
create and sustain a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive San Luis Obispo.
• The challenge will be collectively identifying priorities and areas of focus.
• Please utilize the recommendations you generate for both improving the
community now, and as a strategy for continuing this work beyond the Task Force
timeline.
