We have been happy to work cooperatively with Nick Tompkins and his team to see his project materialize and complete this corner of a growing business area; however, the transit center change was only made available to us late last Friday and the NKT project is now on the Council's agenda for tomorrow evening. SESLOC has a 78 -year history of providing services and support to this community. Most notably, in 2013, we entered into a 10 -year parking agreement with the City to address the parking deficiencies not initially handled with the construction of the Damon Garcia playing fields. While SESLOC received a small stipend up front, given the length of the agreement, we have effectively provided an arrangement for free parking. We are now in the 7th year of this agreement that has addressed a City problem and benefited the San Luis Obispo community. SESLOC has done its share. This transit station could just as effectively be located alongside the Damon Garcia fields. Since moving to our Broad Street location, my office window overlooks the transit enclosure across the street by the Marigold Center. It is a rare occasion to see a bus stop there to pick up a passenger. However, there are regular stops by the police and paramedics to address issues with individuals in the enclosure who are not waiting for Paso Robles Atascadero G Baan Louis Obign I Arroyo Grande Santa Maria Mayor Harmon & City Council Members September 14, 2020 Page 2 of 2 a bus. SESLOC has concerns about employee safety in our parking lot that adjoins the newly proposed transit center area, as transit kiosks tend to create a loitering problem. SESLOC does support multimodal transportation and the need to reduce emissions and a transit stop --with a sign only-- that does not impact our property could also be a solution we could support. SESLOC respectfully requests that this proposed component of the NKT project plan be eliminated. If this last minute addition to the NKT project plan by the City remains on SESLOC property, SESLOC cannot agree to the Broad Street driveway closure.
