HomeMy WebLinkAboutPappFrom:James Papp < To:CityClerk Subject:Correspondence on Item 5: Contributing delisting application for 1156 Peach Street Dear Council Members, This is a slightly oddball item that merits chair clarification. The building is an earlier structure whose architecture is unknown because an American Craftsman facade was added to most of the front in 1925 (SLO Historic Permits File, Cal Poly Special Collections). As such, the original building lacks integrity, and even the facade has lost much of its integrity in later changes including fenestration. The committee determined the house ineligible for the Contributing List. A separate shed was determined, on interior inspection, which the author of the evaluation, Chuck Crotser, did not have access to, to be a box frame or single-wall load-bearing structure, a well-known construction technique in the Old West, a bit like propping up a house of cards (80% of the surviving structures of Bodie are box frame). The shed has severe integrity problems, and it is likely but undetermined whether there are further box frame shed structures in the Mill Street Historic District with greater integrity. The Committee recommended delisting with the condition of documentation but not to HABS level. The condition had to be corrected in our recent minutes so may not have made it into your version.
