I have lived in SLO since 2013, in 2016 when Race Matters SLO was founded I finally found a group organization in SLO that is inclusive, diverse, and intent on creating artistic, cultural, educational, and social experiences. From free advanced screenings of films (Queen & Slim) to live storytelling’s during Black history month, to social gatherings at wine bars to create new connections, photography exhibits showing the diversity of Black people living and working on amazing things in this county. Race Matters SLO has connected me to new friends and opportunities. Through the photography event at 2020s BELONGING series we were able to be have McBride sisters wines donated by two Black female winemakers who source fruit from this area. Through Race Matters I have learned from amazing lecturers via zoom as well. Race Matters SLO works to make this county as kind and inclusive as it can be. Race Matter SLO should be funded to continue this work because it provides this region a different point of view to what is typically seen in SLO. Vote YES to Race Matters SLO for the funding of $27,600! Sincerely, Justin Trabue 1
