Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
After two years of disregarding Open Space policies, you are now considering extending the pilot program allowing
nighttime access.
The Conservation and Open Space Element states very clearly that “The main goal is to protect open space and wildlife
habitat, with a secondary goal of providing passive recreation where it will not harm the environment."
In the decision to allow nighttime access to open space, there is the requirement of studies to determine if the intrusion
of humans at night would interfere with the nocturnal habits of the wildlife inhabitants.
You do not have this important information. It would be irresponsible to continue the pilot program until there is a full
report and the opportunity for the public to understand the impacts created.
Please table this issue until there is a full and public scientific accounting of the impacts of the program. That was the
agreement when it was approved.
Thank you,
Christine Mulholland
