Subject:Item #11
I am writing to request that item #11 be removed from the Council's Consent Agenda and be
rescheduled so that a full, transparent and researched opinion can be presented. This is a
controversial item and its implementation was opposed and questioned by wildlife experts in San Luis
Obispo. At the time, data presented to support night hiking was unconvincing. To further complicate
the issue, due to widespread fires during this past year, wildlife from other areas have been
displaced, and they have migrated, some to SLO County, putting them in competition with
residents. This is the wrong time to add the stress of human disturbances to struggling wildlife. The
mission is to preserve wildlife by designating and protecting wildlife areas. Opening up these areas to
further disturbances is foolish and incompatible with the SLO mission statement protecting wildlife
and wildlife habitats.
Please give this issue the full hearing and attention wildlife and wildlife habitats deserve.
Respectfully,
Kathleen J Waddell, Ph.D.
