Subject:Support of Agenda item #11 - winter access to Cerro San Luis
Hello SLO City Council and Honorable Mayor Heidi Harmon,
I’d like to encourage continued access to the Cerro San Luis for night hiking for another season, as to allow more time to
collect data and establish it as permanent.
I have been traveling to SLO for over 20 years on Thursday evenings, generally by car pool, to hike with my friends. We
normally would frequent local restaurants after the hike and help to support the local economy.
The hikes are refreshing and a welcome respite after a work week. We share good times, and blow off steam by climbing
the mountain. It’s great exercise and I encourage others to join us. The views are spectacular and the sunsets
extraordinary.
We’ve never seen/had any problems on the hill. We’re all able-bodied and strong. We stay in good shape doing this and
it has been a tradition for almost 30 years by some members of the group.
Thank you for your permission to do this after hours. It’s helpful to not have to rush down and be off the mountain one
hour after sunset. We stay safe, socially distance and wear masks/headlamps. Please join us some evening if you can.
We are just one group out there. Bicyclists and other hikers enjoy the walk, too. It’s never crowded and animal sightings
are rare.
Thank you,
Valerie Trenev
