Dear Council,
Please consider approving consent agenda item #11 tonight. Although obtaining a permit to access open
space areas after hours can be an unnecessary hurdle for some to navigate, it is surely a superior alternative
to eliminating access to open space in the evenings during the winter months. Much of the working population
in San Luis Obispo works during the hours their local open space areas are open during the winter months.
This limits opportunities for winter recreation and exercise for many. Now more than ever we need to provide
a safe outlet for our community to use as a source of recreation and exercise. Providing open space for the
community's use is a great option.
I would also like to recommend the expansion of this pilot program to additional open space areas like Bowden
Ranch Open Space, South Hills Open Space, and Irish Hills Open Space. This would distribute opportunities for
winter recreation to more members of the community while reducing vehicle miles traveled between
destinations.
