Subject:Active transportation plan
Dear members of the active transportation committee:
I am writing to support the placement of bike lanes on major roadways through the town of SLO as well as on routes out
of town. There are many local routes where the safe space on the edge of the road simply disappears, and there are
not signs encouraging car drivers to share the road.
In addition to bike lanes, there still needs to be street parking, especially for disabled people or senior citizens that
simply cannot walk very far; using walkers or crutches, but who would still enjoy going out to eat or shop downtown.
Please consider leaving parking spots near dining or shops for folks who need them.
Decent bike racks in every small shopping center, that are in plain sight, are also very desirable. No one who rides a bike
to shop wants to put their bike around a corner, where a thief could cut the locks and spirit away the bike, without
anyone noticing. That is why putting the racks near the entrances of stores would be encouraging for bicycle shoppers.
Thanks for taking on this big task!
Sincerely,
Kathy Wright
