Subject:Bike paths pros
Dear City of SLO,
San Luis Obispo is known as a "Green" city and a city of active people. I believe that connecting our bike paths from City
to Sea is the way to help locals stay healthy as well as continue to support ecotourism. The people who live here,
especially our families, need safe bike paths. As a mom and educator I know that a safe place for children to ride bikes
and scooter is the only way for parents and children to really enjoy this activity. Let’s give our families a safe place to
ride bikes together and connect in healthy ways.
Bike paths also create safe pathways for our tweens and teens to travel as they become more independent. We all
know that keeping older kids active is very important! Putting our funding in this area might make transportation for this
group easier. They could safely get to the mountain bike trails, skate park, hikes, and school of course.
I also know that seniors who cycle need a safe path to continue their bike riding and movement in our town. The bike
paths are also used for strolling along and keeping our seniors healthy and social.
Bike paths help our city continue building the ecotourism sector of our economy. The tourists that stay on our street at a
local Air BNB most often have bike racks attached to the car. They expect a safe, approachable bike friendly town. I
would also add that the cycle tracks are a good way to add to the city bike flow for commuters. They do not replace the
goal of connecting the existing safe bike pathways.
It might be a way to boost the number of families heading downtown. The bike trip to yogurt or ice cream downtown
was one of our favorite family adventures. A combination of bike paths could make this a safe experience.
I respectfully recommend that we continue to link the bike paths and spend the money to care for our locals as well as
visitors. Linking the existing bike paths will make a huge impact for all. This is the SLO WAY!
Sincerely,
Lisa LaFaille
