Wilbanks, Megan From:Trent Johnson < To:Advisory Bodies Subject:Draft Active Transportation Plan Dear Committee Members, Thank you and staff for your hard work on this plan. I am really excited to see protected bike lanes as a main priority of this plan. I support this list of Tier 1 projects to encourage more ridership which will be crucial to meeting our climate action, mode shift, vision zero, equity, diversity, and inclusivity goals. In order to create this positive and healthy transition away from single occupant vehicle use, we must ensure that people can access their homes, jobs, schools, social engagements, and other daily necessities safely and comfortably by bike or walking. I encourage you to support the plan's implementation approach. I have three children ages 3, 5, and 7 and I hope that they can grow up in a more bike friendly SLO. I am legitimately AFRAID to take them in many parts of our city due to the lack of protected bike lanes and infrastructure. While my five year old is one of two students that currently bikes to her school (all of the other parents do drop off and pickup by car and/or live close enough that they can walk), my seven year old has no opportunity to bike given the lack of safety. Without prioritizing bike infrastructure, we will only see worse traffic, more unnecessary death and injury, and further our progress towards climate action. Thank you, Trent Johnson Laguna Lake Neighborhood San Luis Obispo, CA 93405 1
