Subject:Active Transportation Plan
Dear committee members,
Thanks so much for the incredible amount of work that you and staff have put into the Active Transportation Plan. It is a
thing of beauty, and I look forward to seeing it get implemented (eventually).
I have one small suggestion to make it a bit more user-friendly for community members who will likely use this
document to find out about specific areas that pertain to their individual commutes. It would be helpful to see a text
supplement to Fig. 18 that itemizes the gaps between existing and proposed, along with numbers that place those gaps
on the map. The goal would be for community members to zoom in on their specific area of concern and be able to
understand where we are and where we’re headed.
I'd also like to express some concern about the suggestion to move Bob Jones to from Tier 2 to Tier 1. While I would love
to see that trail get completed, my understanding is that putting it in Tier 1 could jeopardize future grant funding for
projects within the city limits. The current system prioritizes projects that will make our daily commutes safer, and I
would like to see the city continue to prioritize safe routes to school, work and downtown over a recreational trail on
the perimeter.
The current prioritization is consistent with the city’s ambitious climate and mode shift goals. If there are no potential
negative impacts to making a change, that would be good to know. If there are, it would be helpful for everyone to
understand what we stand to lose. Could staff please clarify tonight?
Thank you!
