As a regular bike rider and walker in our community, I am really happy to see the road improvements included in the plan. I think the Tier 1 projects will help me feel safer, will encourage others to choose alternative forms of transportation and still others feel less vulnerable as they live their daily lives and move about our community. Over a two year period (2016-2018), I walked over 400 miles through California communities from San Diego to Sonoma (walking to all 21 California Missions along the El Camino Real). The road took me through safe and pleasant places and some not so safe (really dangerous) and unpleasant places. I spent seven hours per day on the road - a lot of time to see and think. I noticed many people getting to jobs in the early morning or returning at the end of the day, on bicycle and on foot, on some very busy roads with no bike and walking infrastructure and I reflected on the equity issues created by a car centric community. I am grateful that our community has some very bike-friendly and walk-friendly roads; it is a great start for a healthy, equitable and inclusive community. I really hope we can continue to build on this start, creating environments that will draw more people out of their cars and that are safe for all. Please support the Active Transportation Plan and its implementation.
