Subject:Dana Street Parking District
Mayor Harmon and Council Members,
I own one of the condos at 415 Dana Street, and I urge you to finalize the work that has been going on for a long time on
the parking district, and to include each and every resident of the street in the district.
As you know, outsiders have parked their cars on Dana Street for a very long time because they could stay there an
entire day and not pay a penny. Consequences for the poor residents are obvious. They came home and could not park
on their own street or welcome visitors. Finally the city heard the complaints of the residents and started working on a
special district in an attempt to accommodate the special aspects of Dana St. As you know, it is the first such district
with a two hour overlay, something that would work well if it was monitored on a regular basis, but that does not work
well for the moment. Unfortunately, the City has the habit of creating all sorts of rules that it does not enforce, and this
is one of them. If you want a two-hour parking district, you have to enforce it.
As for the residents, the City first proposed to include only those who lived in houses, but not those who lived in the
condos at the end of the street or in some of the apartments. As you know, there are no tall buildings on this street and
all the condos and apartments are conceived like houses. They just happen to be grouped together in their own area. I
fail to understand why these residents should be treated like second class citizens and be denied a permit. You cannot
overlook that it would negatively impact them because outsiders would take advantage of the situation and not only
park there, but also move their garbage containers on pick-up day. As far as I know, I haven’t heard any of these
“second class residents” object to being included in the permit district, so please, why complicate everything when it
should be so simple? Please, finish the work as soon as possible, and include every residence of Dana St. in the permit
district. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Odile Ayral
