HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/8/2020 Item 14, Cross Wilbanks, Megan From:Brett Cross < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:Item #14 SUBJECT: APPOINTED OFFICIALS’ COMPENSATION Dear Council Members, I'd like to say I can't believe that given the current state of the local economy and the extreme hardships that many people in the community are experiencing that you'd even consider increasing the compensation of the City Manager and the City Attorney not only at this time but honestly at anytime in the near future. Both these positions are already highly compensated. At times I wonder who is living in an almost alternative world. The total compensation for these two public employees positions is really significant. Can you not see that. $218,374 a year is A LOT of money. That's a little over $18,000 a month--A month! And don't forget the Council approved two additional Deputy City Manager positions within the year I believe to help lessen the workload on the City Manager. Unfortunately the public really has no idea what the City Council is doing. The Tribune is barely surviving, the New Times is well, the New Times, and then the online platforms are pretty well scattered. The information will slowly leak out through various venues at some point but by then the decision will have already been made. All I can say this is not the time, especially after Measure G-20 passed because the City claimed it was in severe financial condition-( apparently not true given Item #19), to be raising the compensation of the two highest compensated management employees. Sincerely, Brett Cross San Luis Obispo. 1
