I am the current Chair of the Active Transportation Committee. The ATC is excited that you are being presented with San Luis Obispo's first ever Active Transportation Plan! The development of the plan has taken two and a half years and included 6 formal public outreach meetings, public mailers, online as well as hard copy surveys, the hiring of a consultant Alta, who specializes in the development of these types of plans and 19 Active Transportation Committee specific meetings. The public input on this draft has been outstanding allowing the creation of a truly inclusive and equitable document. I urge you to view the plan and question staff with two main objectives in mind. First, the ATP plan is tied directly to our City's ability to meet our 2035 climate action goals. Without a mode shift away from single occupancy vehicle trips, we will not meet our objectives. Secondly, I urge you to dive into the rating process for individual projects and how those rankings were determined. The ATC recommended to staff that they create a data driven approach for scoring active transportation projects. There were no projects left behind or forgotten, all are included. The highest priority projects are those that are more likely to be built in a timely manner and those that will cause the greatest benefit to our city's entire population. The ATC unanimously recommends the draft Active Transportation Plan without any major modifications for your review and are excited for it's final adoption in February, 2021! Thank you so much for all that you do!
