Subject:Item #14 SUBJECT: APPOINTED OFFICIALS’ COMPENSATION
Dear Mayor Harmon and Members of the Council,
What are you thinking? This action you are contemplating is unconscionable! Many residents are out of
work. Some have lost their businesses. Some have lost everything. And you want to give the two highest
paid employees a raise? Do you have any idea how this looks? This is a slap in the face to everyone who
voted for the permanent sales tax increase.
Shortly the additional 1% sales tax increase will come into effect making almost everything more expensive -
at a time when jobs are few and far between. That's the sales tax that was to ensure the continuance of
essential services. A salary and concomitant retirement annuity increase for the City Manager and the City
Attorney were not included in the "such as" description of essential services.
If you want to reward these individuals for their work during the recent (and ongoing) crisis, buy each of them
a plaque or put together a proclamation, see about naming a new park - something that does not cost money,
both now and at retirement.
Please do the right thing and do not pass this item. Wait for the right time; this is not it.
Sincerely,
Sandra Rowley
