Cultural Heritage Committee,
This is not an agenda item but I would like clarification or comment about Street painting that is taking place in my neighborhood
and in front of my home. Public art is being placed in different areas of the Railroad district in SLO on the Bill Roalman bicycle
path. In review of public art guidelines it appears to me that any public art in Historical areas has to be reviewed by your
committee. It does not appear the the art they have put on Morro nor what they are proposing for my corner has any
significance to the Railroad or Historical area. Was the new public art reviewed by your committee?
I live on the corner of Church and Morro in the only owner occupied home of the corners. No one ever contacted me nor was I
made aware of any public art being placed in front of my home. I know the city has public art but when it is being placed in a
residential area I believe the owners should be notified. The Old Town Area of SLO has many issues it has faced over the years
(I have lived in my house for 50 years) and I am tired of how our historical areas are being treated. Many of the older areas had
boarding homes and apartments that only have street parking. With continued erosion of parking with bulb-outs and etc. our
parking is disappearing. We have seen allot of second units added with no off street parking. I know this type of housing has
been legislated but what about the historical areas. I have always been active in preserving the historical buildings
and character of our city but we need help. Another example of the disrespect for our historical area is Mitchel Park. The
homeless are once again making it their park.
Thank you for your time working on the committee. Volunteering for your position is a gift to the city. I am
just frustrated. Thank you.
